ITs Cursed, it leaks, just sitting there
The cursed 911T I have spoke of so fondly, the one that leaked, and leaked, and took 3 rebuilds to stop leaking. You will not beleive this...
Just sitting there, only having been run on the stand for a couple of hours or so, just sitting there, not having even been disturbed for a couple of months, just SITTING THERE the cursed thing pissed all over the floor. The oil return hose to the oil tank, a NEW hose, just split apart for no apparent reason, except to deposit oil on my floor. And it was just sitting there!!! These things are like a dog, just got mark their space. |
Jack,
I do feel for you and know your aggravation. I'm going back through the same thing also. It get's better. Keep your chin up and think about the fun driving experiences. It's kept me going for the last couple of years. |

Well, if its only to replace the hose, its an easy fix. |
"just split apart for no apparent reason". Failures such as this may be due to chemicals in the lube oil system or from cleaning the hose with said chemicals which attack rubber. Organic solvents are the prime suspects. Jim

The hose split is really a puzzle. I did not use any solvents on it. It looks like it almost shattered, ie very zig zag. I would agree that this is a chacteristic of a chemical attack on the hose. But where from???

Was the engine mounted oil cooler or the oil tank cleaned with any chemicals? Jim
|
No, not that I know of. The cooler was ultrasonically cleaned but dry when I received it back from the cleaner.
