Engine rebuild

Coaching my nephew on his first rebuild. This is his 2004 Boxter with 140k plus miles.
Motor will be out tomorrow and tear down will begin after the new year.
He is excited! I suspect bad main bearings. Engine started knocking and he shut it off and called me. Smart kid. Will keep you all posted in what we find.

Happy New Year in advance

It would be good to see a water cooled engine rebuild thread with pictures here including what in the way of special tools is required, can’t say I’ve seen one before.

Palice,

Have fun with, great that you are helping your nephew! They are known for oil starvation of the #5/#6 main and rod bearings. Amongst other things.

We have 2 apart currently and one more coming out of a car in a couple of weeks once we have another aircooled completed to create work station space. We can document pics, and post some if time permits.

Cheers
