Threaded Insert

Got our chain cases back from tumbling. Discovered that one of the studs was missing and the hole is not threaded. Is this a DIY job? Given this is magnesium, is it better to heli-coil, case saver, or time sert?

I think you'd be fine with a simply helicoil. Not much torque on these studs.

Strange it's not threaded. Sounds like someone goofed at some point. I'd agree a helicoil should be fine there, if you've got enough meat to work with. If the hold is too big, an oversized timesert or similar should take care of it.

Timesert. I don't care for helicoils in most apps, other than steel/cast iron. Even then, I prefer a solid insert.
