Complete Gasket Set Beach

So I found another shortage in my “Complete Gasket Set”. First the through bolt o-rings, then the main and pulley end seals for the crankshaft, then the aluminum bolt gaskets. (Not Enough), then some sender and banjo bolt aluminum gaskets, and now the distributor o-ring. WHAT THE HAY! In addition to the “Complete Gasket Set” shortages, the kit comes with cheaper o-rings (Not Viton) and the lower valve cover gaskets are not the best ones with the raised bead. There is also a bunch of aluminum sealing rings that don’t have a place in my engine.

Sounds like you got a complete top end gasket set.

Dpmulvan 03-01-2024 07:29 PM

Yeh the kit thing is screwy you actually need a lower case kit that comes with what your missing.

porschedude996 03-01-2024 07:39 PM

That may be true. For the cost I assumed it would contain everything.

These kits have always been sort of screwy, I opened a kit from 1995 the other day had 4 valve stem seals in it. Sent you a pm.

Like Dpmulvan stated,

You need a cylinder head gasket set and crank case gasket set. They cost what they cost.

They are somewhat universal and have some bits you will not need, and maybe missing the odd seal you may need. Is what it is.

When you say "for the cost I assumed it would contain everything" . Based on what? The crank case gasket set is relatively inexpensive.

There are many kits available, that all have varying degrees of materials in them. We just buy case through bolt rings in the proper Viton by the 100's, so we never worry. Not the best option for a single build mind you.

Anyways, wish you a successful outcome for your build, keep us up to date on how it is progressing!

Cheers

Interesting philosophy. Wonder how well that plays when the bank cashes in your deposits, or when you pay your property tax?

"Well sir, some money goes in, some doesn't. Is what it is...." ;-)

I am not saying it is optimal, it is reality though.

Gaskets vs Bank deposits and property tax.....
