964/930 oil pump

Hi, Rebuilding a 930 3.3 turbo. I noticed it was running with a 964 oil pump..not the 930 pump. Is that ok? or not a good idea?

If its fine, Im assuming I still use the standard pressure springs from the 930?

thanks

The pressure segment of the 930 pump was enlarged 19% to deal with all the extra oil supply items, like larger piston squirters and turbo supply. The scavenger side of the 964 oil pump is the same as the 930.

ok thanks... Does anyone know if the gt3 oil pump would fit into the 79 turbo case without any mods? I read something about having to update the flywheel seal due to the extra vacuum created?
I might be able to get my hands on a used one.

thanks

Unless you are road racing the car I dont see the benefit in adding the GT3 pump.
Or running at sustained high RPM.

Understood, However, not really concerned about the benefits over a 930 pump. ... just might be able to get a used gt3 pump for a fair price instead of buying a new costly 930 pump

so any fitment concerns?

996 Turbo pump was cheaper than GT3 last I looked. GT3 pump requires some case machining to fit due to the secondary scavenging pickup, not sure about the 996 Turbo pump.

The GT3 pump does need some case clearancing if not mistaken. It adds an additional scavenger section but pressure side is the same as turbo. You don’t need one.

Garage
Bill Verburg gives us flow rates of the Turbo 3.3 and 964 oil pumps.

When to use a GT3 vs 930 pump?

GT1 is 83/l/min & 160 l/min

all the dry sumps run at a partial vacuum, the seals on the gt3 are designed to support a deeper vac and RSR even more
