bearings

Installing glyco main crankshaft bearings.

do you guys do anything to the edges of the bearings where both halves mate on the surface edge.. Like maybe take a file to remove any high spots or rough edges?

I bought 2 sets and both seem like the edges are not perfectly crisp and clean. it seems like my finger nail can catch on a couple of them...just not quite sure

or am i over thinking and just install them?

thanks

Can you post a picture of the area in question?

Are you are asking about putting a small chamfer on the joint face where the two shells meet at the crankcase parting line?

not sure if its just the coating removed or the bearings themselves damaged.. i feel it very lightly with my finger nails. But i been thru a couple of sets and they are all similar.

I wouldn’t do anything to affect bearing crush, like filing the ends.

I'd remove the burr with a small chamfer. You don't need much obviously.

I usually use a piece of well burnished 1000 grit sand paper ( I burnish it on a piece of round stock on the lathe to remove some of the "bite") and wilth a little mineral spirts gently wipe the sirface of the bearing to clean it up before installing.
