66mm crank - no plug, no problem?
 
My 66mm crank has no plugs in the two drillings nearest the ends of the crank, which face outwards away from the middle of the engine. You can see how the wd40 tube goes straight though one and comes out past the distributor gear. The other one comes up against the plug that's in the flywheel end.

Is this correct or should these two be plugged?

The engine has failed due to lack of oiling in the piston rings so a missing plug or two would in a sense be reassuring as it could possibly explain the failure.

I just checked a 66mm CW crank I have in the basement for comparison.
The hole near the distributor drive gear goes straight through, as your does. This appears to be an access hole for a plug in main journal #2.
The one at the flywheel end goes in a ways, but does stop at a plug that I can see from the flywheel side - it's between two of the flywheel bolts.

FWIW I think the first one allows oil in the chain case to drain back to the main case through the crank.

It wasn't clear what the flywheel one's for but maybe it lets the end bearing oil drain back to the case too.

Nevertheless, that's really reassured me. Thank-you.
