993SS Camshaft Timing
I am about to put 993SS cams into a 1995 993 motor. Anyone know what to set the cam timing at?
I'm seeing numbers as low as 1.55mm up to 1.8mm which seems like a pretty big delta. Thanks |

The cam timing on 911 two valve engines really isn't that critical. before all you "make it perfect as possible" nut jobs troll me, sure, try your best to make them match but a few tenths won't matter. Not even on the dyno. If you want to play around, lean toward advance to get better low end and retard for better top end. If you're going to play with timing changes make sure you have clearance. |
I advanced mine as far as possible on a boosted 3.4.
Since these motors live their lives mostly below WOT, it made sense to me. If an all out race car, I’d go middle of road or more retarded for peak HP. |
Makes sense. Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll stick somewhere in the middle. The car is mainly a street car but does see an occasional track day and many trips to the mountains.
