Timing chain tensioner
 
Is the timing chain tensioner "idler gear" supposed to move back and forth on the pivot pin freely?

Its a 1989 3.2L 911. I have a gap as in the picture. Old and new tensioners are the same size. Picture is the left bank from below.

The gap allows the idler gear/chain to self align. The gap shown looks correct.

Thank you. So I got that part installed correct. Now I just need to find the "scraping noise"!
