Are these markings from the factory? Case Split

I've just disassembled a 3.2 case.
My understanding is that the case had not been apart before although some has done a top end rebuild... evidenced by the upside down pistons!

The rods were quite sloppy on the crank and when removed, could see evidence of wear on the bearings. The dates on the bearings are late 1984 which corresponds to this 1985 engine.

But there is black writing on the rods... I've not seen this before... what does it signify?
