Engine Build - Santa list

Getting into an engine build project. Have some quotes but want to make sure my wish list is addressed.

One recommended 89mm bore out another 90mm.

Twin plug obviously
Motec - EFI planned

Please chip in with recommendations

I know I can search the forum, but I apologize, I am not sure I can pick up the best wish to work from.

So for once in a lifetime built what should I look for. Appreicate your knowledge and input as always.

What do you have to start with? What are your goals/ use?

If you're using the same user name as you do on another forum, I think I know your starting point. ;)

Are you going to use your numbers-matching case, if you have one? I did, and that's why I went with the largest slip-fit P&Cs (87.5) possible without boring the case (except line bore).

I'd recommend either E or mod-S cams for the street.

Upgrading your oil pump is a good idea too.

Yes - Numbers matching car. So going to use the same case.

Once in a lifetime build, I am more than halfway there :D

Goals - Reliability and power (nothing new)

Had a lot of work done in the last two years.
-Suspension, breaks, most of the interior, lights, gauges, fuel system.
-Full transmission rebuilt, with custom gears all beefed, LSD installed, Short shifter etc. Its ready for whats to come next.

Engine externally was working on, carbs rebuilt, all things refreshed etc.

Now I have two options - Got for full engine build next or Full-on paint from bare metal.

For paint and for refresh of all things - I have received some ridiculous quotes and some reasonable ones as well. I am going to explore that a bit more in Spring, two more shops to get serious quotes from.

The Car runs strong, no way it is stock 2.2L so it has had some work done to it. no idea until we open it.

For Engine - again I have received a ridiculous quote and a decent one comparatively but still a lot.

On the list
-930 oil pump
-Turbo valve covers
-Dual plug
-EFI (motec) with custom harness, I believe no MSD needed
-Bore to 90mm

What other upgrades can I or should I request internally?

Turbo valve covers are not necessary , have yours flat sanded . The rocker arm shafts can be a bigger problem so spend money on rocker shaft hardware and 0-rings from
Niel Bainbridge .

I agree that turbo valve covers are not necessary IF you use the gaskets with silicone beads on them.

Here are some comparison dyno's of some small mag case engines I built that might help you with ideas.

Half the time mine took. I also had a transmission rebuild at the same time, but who's counting?

Fingers cross - My transmission rebuilt and other stuff took 24months :)

Your car is amazing and you will forget all the wait now that you get to enjoy it

I have a long way to go.

Its Started - Bought a Motec M84 and I believe we will be going to a 2.8L, Changing Crank etc. Don't ask me much details I am noob when it comes to this.

I gave my driving wish list and I was suggested Dual plug, coil on plug, Motec M84, 2.8L - But I trust the shop to do the right thing.

Oh and Resonance Intake I believe - I was told there will be good surprises lol

Finding a M84 was fun but I got lucky.

Does this require a Motec CDI8 box? just curious.

It will be a long 18 months

btw - my transmission rebuild and other work took over 2 years already.
