0 or 1 Crank code for backlash measurement

Hi,

While measuring backlash I found the codes on my case, on my intermediate shaft gear but I can not find the 1 or 0 on my crank gear……

Anyone can give me a clue where to find it!?

Merry Christmas!
Cheers,
Bart

Mix and match crank and intermediate shaft gears to get results, sometimes “0” intermediate shaft gear works best in “1” case. Sometimes gears aren’t marked.

Thans for quick reply!
For sure I do not see these ‘writen’ numbers….
Was expecting a similar indention like in case and aluminium intermediate shaft gear.

The tolerances are depending on the coding of the three, will see now if I end somewhere inthe middle ;-)

From my limited experience, the crank gear is generally not marked. The engine case is marked.

Case is marked. IMS gear is marked.

Bentley manual has a mix and match table.

Thank you gents!

So not knowing what the crank gear code is I will aim for 0.03-0.042 to be safe.

Cheers,
Bart

When considering the intermediate gear backlash the crank gear is generally a non-issue.
The crank and crank gear are precision machined to a much closer tolerance the the case.
Check you backlash keeping in mind that when a magnesium case heats, the inconsistent expansion provides for ever changing clearances.

The 964 gears are numbered/matched because the gears are both steel and prone to high harmonic vibrations. They match the gears on a machine that checks vibration at operating speeds.

Thanks Henry!
Always good if someone put things back in perspective
