914-6 engine specs advice

The engine of my 914-6 needs attention. During the engine rebuild, I want to improve to 2,2 or 2,4 S specifications in order to just improve the drive pleasure this car gave to us in the last 34 years.

Would use a counterbalance crank, S pistons and cylinders, light ported heads and S cams. On a revised stock engine case (oils pick up mod, case savers etc)

Here my specific question. I found on the market correct priced long blocks 2,2 T and 2,4 T engines. Since I will use new pistons and cylinders, and send the cams to Web Cam to be re-profiled. Your advice on ......

1- the best choice .......... 2,2T or 2,4T long block?
2- if I use the 2,4 long block the flywheel and clutch will work with the 901 original gearbox?
3- any other advice?

I drove a 914/6 with various engines for more than 30 years.
I had 2.0T (stock), 2.5 short stroke "S" cams, 2.4 S MFI, 2.7 RS, 2.2E with carbs and the last one was a 2.45 70.4X86 with Solex cams.
The latter was by far the most enjoyable for a plethora of reasons.
Keep in mind, 914/6 engines run hot. Detonation is an issue.
2.5 SS was a hoot but not good for commuting. It was my everyday driver.
2.4 S MFI was the same.
2.2E had detonation issues and mediocre performance.
2.7 RS was fine but the low compression with "S" cams ran too hot.
The 2,45 with solex cams 9.5:1 and 40mm was easy to drive, great low end pull and made 175 RWHP @ 6700 rpm. No detonation issues and overheating wasn't ever an issue.

“THE MAN” has spoken so hard to believe you will get better advice…..other than make sure to save original engine case for long term value…😎

Henry I appreciate your comments. If your 70.4x86 Solex Cams, was the best experience, I will follow your advice.
Original Webber carbs will do the job?
What about the oil pump, do you recommend using a 3,2 pump or a 964 pump?
Pistons and cylinders 86mm any recommendation?
