What is this?
When I separated my 2.2 case, I discovered a a screen type baffle attached to the left side positioned over the oil pump area. I hjaven't ever seen this referenced in Bruce A's book or waynes's. I'm sure it serves a purpose, etc. just surprised to see it.

DO you mean attached to the pickup of the pump, or some other area?
|
No, it's not the circular pump pick-up screen, but instead is a rectangular screen attached to the insuide of the case half just below the crank journals so that when the case is together it sort of covers the top of the pump. If this is an unusual item, I can get a pic this weekend and attach.

That is the windage screen that keeps the oil from sloshing into the crankshaft. From what I've heard it was installed by the factory (I still have half of mine... :-/) but many people don't install them back when they rebuild their engines.

My 68 2.0L had one in each half. I asked around and the consensus was that they were not needed. The plastic around the perimeter of my screens was cracking, so I figured the danger of a piece coming off outweighed the benefits of the screens.
