Air Guide installation issue
Hello there:
As most of you know, the Alternators being sold for the 911SC 3.0L now have an internal regulator which brings me to my question regarding an engine build I currently am involved with. First and foremost, my engine Type is 930/04 and the Fan Housing/Fan diameter is 225mm unless I am mistaken. I am able to mount the new alternator and insert the fan with no issue, and while my "new" alternator fits fine into the Fan Housing, I seem to be having a problem mounting the air guide with the slot cut into it. (Basically, I purchased an air guide used on the 1984 911 which entails the slot. See attached pictures of older version versus newer version). 1) what are others doing to install this newer alternator? 2) should I trim the "fins" on the 1984 version to make it fit? The reason for question #2 above is, when I try to install the engine shroud it will not fit, and I found that the air guide fins are too tall making this difficult. Appreciate any advise with my (dumb) question. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1738792728.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1738792785.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1738792853.jpg |
Trim them to fit.

For one thing, with the new air guide (with the cutout) the alternator is mounted with the regulator up instead of down, otherwise no modification is needed.
