A few old school engine pix.
2.9 put together by Bill Ring and Eric Wills from pieces I've been collecting for years
Sandcast case Andial 2.9 p and c Heads by Steve Weiner (RIP) Rsr crank Distributor is one of Aaron Burnhams. The beautiful headers came from Aaron too. Carillos Dc64 cams Lots of other old school bits the sharp eye can see. Save the gearbox for another post. |

That is a thing of beauty

It really turned out well. And runs like a champ. 3 oil changes in. Air cleaner setup is per SC/RS.
If I can ever get the tach back, it will have mechanical tach drive No on engine oil cooler (906 filter instead). Both fenders have coolers and it seems to go just fine. |
Originally was going to run w a k-fisch pump but it runs SO well, I think the Bosch pump will stay put?
|
Nice, I really like the oil lines to the tensioners.
|
I believe those are center oiling cams.

I bet you’re right.

It's a hybrid center feed and spray bar cam oiling system. First used in late RSR, 934, 935 and two valve 962.
The interesting thing about this system is that later versions used an extended bolt connection as apposed to a cam flange and nut system used on the Solex cam. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1750121482.jpg |
Henry wins the prize! This motor was an attempt to clean out as much of the stash as possible.

So, Bill Ring and Eric Wills helped me build this awesome 2.9 engine from a bunch of parts I've been collecting forever. It's got cool stuff like a sandcast case, special pistons and cylinders from Andial, and even heads done by Steve Weiner before he passed away. Plus, it's got parts from Aaron Burnham, like the distributor and headers, and a bunch of other vintage goodies!
|
Add center-oiled cams to Henry's wish list for his new engine project.

Here is another pic from the front side http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1750200830.jpg

A friend has a pair of centre oil cams if anyone needs a pair ..

The bolts and covers are another story. Here's a set from a late 935 BOLTS AND A CAM. I think I can machine the covers to work. Similar to how we modified the 2.0 covers for Carrera tensioners. That parts list reads like a greatest hits of air-cooled performance. Love seeing Andial and RSR pieces in the same motor.
|
Had to leave a few bits off because of practicality doubts (used early forged rockers instead of 906) and failing to think ahead (forgot to have the case machined to accept an Rsr main shaft... figured that out when too late)
|
Pretty kool. Where did you get or how did you make those air cleaner boxes/mounts? I thought SCRS had one piece housing that sat on top of the air horns. Those look like two piece air horns with box bolted between?
|
My dad (RIP) machined a set up for me, using originals as a pattern. Uses modified factory boats. I think the double entry air cleaner came from Henry? Turned out pretty nice.
