Hot tanking shop for 997 GT3 engine castings (SF Bay Area)?
Hi, I was in the process of tearing down parts of my 997 GT3 motor in order to weld the coolant lines (pics here). My usual shop doesn't want to hot tank the castings since they've had issues in the past with magnesium. It seems like there are multiple alloys used in the castings, but some of them at marked AlSi7Mg which appears to be the same as A356 (0.2-0.5% Mg content).
Anyone know a shop in the SF Bay Area (East Bay or SF preferred) that can clean these castings up well prior to me getting the fittings welded? |

Thanks. I didn't realize they did that. I ended up taking them to my welder Bob Wirth Race Engines in Hayward.

Have you considered ultrasonic cleaning as an alternative? Many places can perform that service as well.

When you say "hot tank" I think corrosive to aluminum type solutions meant for small block cast iron chevy's and fords.. We run ours through our Jet Wash with Aluminum safe solutions, and get great results....
Cheers
