Engine Oil Cooler

Is there a way to remove the engine mounted oil cooler without having to drop the motor? I have an early 911S (1967).

Thanks

I seem to recall for the pre-1972 cars (1st diagram) it was difficult to get to the upper nuts securing the engine mounted oil cooler due to a lack of the separate part no. 3 (2nd diagram). Therefore one may have to remove the induction system, alternator and air shroud to access the cooler mounting nuts. Probably easier to drop the engine and put it on an engine stand and then proceed. Hi - I just replaced my oil cooler for the second time. The first time I dropped the motor. The second time I fixed the source of the problem (oil relief valve) and then replaced the cooler without dropping the motor. I have a 3.2 and was able to take the sheet metal that sits over the cooler off, without much trouble, to remove the cooler. The heat exchanger had to be removed to get the cooler out once it was loose. Good luck

Thanks Guys, I have a pre 72 car but I also have a later fan shroud on the car with the ducting to the engine oil cooler. So I should just be able to remove the cooler cover on top of the engine and tehm remove the pass. side headers and waallla,,,,, it should come out right? Are there new o-rings that I would need to purchase during replacement?

I don't believe the heater box has to come off. You will need three rubber seals. Pelican sells them. Two each of K-704-172-50 and one each of K-704-173-50. Jim
