valve stem spec chart

maybe a dumb question, but can someone fill me in on reading this chart correctly. 8.97 - .012. im reading it as a minus meaning 8.958 is minimum stem dia. thnx

0,012mm or 0.0005" is the taper on the stem when checking a used valve. This is measured on the guide bearing surface, at the head end of the stem and shouldn't be exceeded. Measure inline with
'c' in the diagram, not at 'b'.
