Milestone
Not the engine rebuild you guys are used to seeing on here (merely a clean-up) , but I’m classing it as a milestone on my car .
Working around 1 hour a day after work , Since Sunday evening I’ve got it in my garage , took the transmission off , got it on the stand , and started stripping bits to be refurbed . Tonight , I can finally see its heritage !!! Air-cooled fins  One side only , but I’m celebrating with photos and mimosas  Don’t worry , I’ll dump this into my old 964 thread once I’ve cleaned that train wreck up . Just happy , as it’s taken about 14 years to get to this point of my “rolling restoration/clean-up” http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1765511448.jpg |
Does anybody have this piece of 964 engine tin in good condition I can buy ?
Maybe from a 964 conversion that went to Sheridan fibreglass tins ? I know it shouldn’t be posted here , but from what I gather it’s not recommended to post a wtb add in parts for sale these days … http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1765669895.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1765669895.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1765669895.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1765669895.jpg |
That corrosion seems not normal. My car is older and the tins have been perfect. Was the car from the rust belt? See you're SoCal.

Iirc SoCal-Texas-socal .
I’ll have to go back through its history to see exactly where it’s been , but EVERYTHING rusts if it’s close enough to the ocean …. And bare metal will oxidize due to humidity . The legend of “rust free California car” is a fallacy …. I’m from Manchester , England originally so I know a bit about rust !!! Back home , first thing you should do when replacing or restoring is getting rid of the crappy factory finish and then zinc plating before paint/powder , which is what I will be doing with all parts coming off . It’s repairable , but to be honest if I can find one in good condition it’s not worth the effort of fixing it . |
