Piston/cylinder question
Will the pistons/cylinders off an "85 Carrera fit my '82 SC. I'm going to be doing a rebuild soon and want the Nikasil cylinders, as opposed to my current Alusil ones.
I don't think there will be a problem but rather be safe .... |
The cylinders will fit fine but the wristpins are different 23mm for the Carrera 22mm for the SC, of course you could also swap con rods....but then you would need to swap crankshafts....

Right - the answer is a flat no on the pistons.

Short Stroke 3.2?
So does that mean I can buy 98mm cylinders, use 98mm JE pistons, and they will fit fine on my SC case and heads? I thought there was an issue w/ the cylinder to head sealing ring. Wayne’s book says to use a 3.2 case w/ a SC crank for the short stoke 3.2. I’m confused. |
S/S 3.2 is a 3 liter case w/ 70.4mm crank & 98mm p/c
L/S 3.2 is a stock Carrera w/ 74.4mm stroke & 95mm p/c 3.2 Carrera or 3.0 SC blocks are pretty much the same, there are minor differences like oil drain, the major difference between them is the crank, con rods and pistons(not counting ancillary sysytems like DME, alt etc) Either block w/ 74.4mm crank & 98mm p/c is a 3.4 liter |
3.2 case and 3.0 case are basically identical. You need special 3.2 pistons that have the piston pin bore offset properly. I have the short stroke 3.2 RSR kit sitting right next to me. Cost is about $3500...

Wayne, you think you can keep that kit hidden for a couple months while I complete a 3.6 conversion and find a car for the 3.0??
What does that kit include, just P&Cs? |
