2.7 rebuild

How much is involved in a rebuild for a 2.7? Average cost, skill level, specialty tools etc? I do all the work on both our late model cars (VW Passat VR6, GMC Jimmy). There would be no deadline or anything but how long should I plan for if it's not done full time. What upgrades absolutely need to be done and which ones are more frivolous. Mike.

I figured depending on how careful you are and if you do all the measuring that you should about 40 hours give or take. Cost can be wild or can be mild depending on hop up items or if you are doing a overhaul or a rebuild. Overhaul in my book means no pistons and cylinders. Good luck

I am rebuilding my 74 2.7. So far I have spent $2000 in machine shop work (Ollies) for cases, heads, rods, rockers, crank and some mods. Then $1800 in parts. I am following the rebuilding process in Wayne's book, which is a must have. I figure I'll be into the engine about $4500 for a quality rebuild.
