European Pistons and Cylinders
Hi Wayne,
Will be picking up your new book this wekend, but have a few questions in anticipation of reading it cover to cover. My car is a 1983 911SC with 76,000 miles: 1. When I'm ready to do a rebuild (needs valve guides and piston rings), are there any advantages or disadvantages to putting in new European pistons and cyclinders instead of re-using my old P&C (assuming they are okay)? 2. When we start to take it apart, how can I tell where it has been leaking (the entire underside is wet, but it's not from the oil return tubes or the valve covers; the seepage seems to be from above, where I can't see when it's on the lift). 3. Are there any modifications that you recommend, other than Carerra chain tensioners update and Carerra oil cooler? Thanks for your help...............Andras |

How do you know that you need new rings and guides? Most of these engines go way past 200k miles without a rebuild. I tore mine apart at 141k and only because i broke 4 exhaust studs and wanted to learn how the motor worked.
