New Rings

Wayne,
Getting ready to get the parts together for rebuilding my early 2.0 engine to stock S spec's.
I wanted to know if there is any difference between piston ring brands. I see Pelican sells rings for 2.0 911S but does not mention the manufacturer. Wondered who the manufacturer is and if these are as good as Mahle who I expect was the original manufacturer, or if you prefer a different brand such as Deves which are suppossed to last twice as long as regular rings (is that just marketing hype)?

Nah, they are all pretty good - I haven't heard of any complaints from either. The rings that we sell for your engine are OEM Goetz rings that I think were used in the Mahle pistons...

I spoke to Becker (sp) an old old and very knowledgable Porsche engine machinest and he told me that Deves rings relied on ring tension vs combustion pressure that other rings use to seal. This method is less reliable and more wastefull of power than combustion pressure sealing according to him. I tend to agree. I really hesitate to quote someone based on several phone conversations so if B is on line or someone else has spoke to him on this same issue please add to this info.
