carrera chain tensioner
Hi,
I'm rebuilding my 72 2.4 T engine. With carrera chain tensioner upgrade off course. My question concerns the mounting of idlers and tensioners on the chain housing shaft. On the left side the idler arm fits against the chain housing and the chain tensioner fits against the idler arm. Looks OK. On the right side however, the tensioner fits against the idler but there is a gap between the idler arm and the housing. Should there be a spacer between the housing and the idler arm? Any comments? Oh yeah, the idler arms are the later style. Thanks, Philip Belgium |
How big is the gap? A small gap is normal. A large gap of about 1cm is what you typically see when you install the newer style tensioners with the older-style idler arms.

That sounds normal. Compare it to the photos in Chapter 5 of the Engine Rebuild Book...
