oil pump locking tabs
I put my crankcase together yesterday and then thought that I had incorrectly locked the oil pump washer locking tabs in the up position. My suspicions were realized when looking through the oil return tube hole in the crankcase. At first, I was thinking there is no way they will spin out. Then after some pondering and the sinking feeling in my gut, I am thinking I should split the case again and correct this oversight, but I wanted thoughts on this from the experts.

Man...I'm no expert, nut i am doing my rebuild too and i would say split it again if you want to sleep at night. The odds are they won't come off if you torqed them properly. But is it really worth the risk? Porsche put those on there for a reason, and put them on there in the fasion they did for a reason. A 4-5 hour settback now is NOTHING compaired to what would happen if one of those nuts spins loose. Imagine...nut gets loose, oil pump starts moving, intermeidiate shaft starts vibrating in bearings, shaft fails, nut flys off, bounces around and destroys crank, rods, pistons, cylynders, oil pump, etc....complete dissaster! Bottom line...if those nuts come loose, you will need to buy another motor.

If you used nylock nuts I would not worry, if not take it apart and use the lock tabs.
