mystery of the intermediate shaft gear
It is obvious that someone has been into my engine before me. the intermediate shaft gear with the marking "0" or "1" is my next problem to solve. my car is a 73 1/2 911T with CIS injection. When we opened the engine up we noted that the gear was marked "1" had unusual wear upon it. I am not sure that my mechanic knows whether this is car takes an "0"gear or the "1" and my trusty How to Rebuild Book is at the mechanic shop---a made a gift of it to him because I wanted him to consider some of the points there.
MY QUESTION is this; How do I determine what the proper gear should be? It seems to me that just because there is a "1" gear there that that may not be the appropriate one as my mechanic assumes since others have journeyed before us. Is there some definite way to tell before I begin the rebuild process? |

The case should have a marking - it's noted where in the book, and also, you can measure the backlash using the setup shown in the book...
