Woessner Pistons - any experience?
Does anyone have any direct experience using Woessner German pistons?
http://www.woessner-kolben.de/ They have an entire line of high-performance applications for Porsche such as 3.4, 3.8 etc.. Complete kit w/ pistons, cylinders and rings is $2,284. I'm look for alternatives to the hard to get Mahles but not willing to use JE's again. Jeff |
What are your issues with JE? Care to share?
I'm not saying that you did this, but in particular, I think that the JE pistons get a bad rap because people use the custom-made ones in race and high performance engines where experimentation is high, and so are expectations as well. Mahles are not available in custom sizes, so you can only really build "safe" proven engines with them... -Wayne |

Wayne,
thanks for the thoughts on this. It is a bit disconcerting that I've now found at least 4 other folks who have had problems with the JE's and they've broken at the wrist pin. And you're right - it could be coincidence and the root cause something else. My suspicions are that it wasn't really the piston that caused my explosion but even so, I simply don't have the infinite resources (time & $) to test this theory and would feel safer removing the JE's from the equation and using Mahles. I'm not open to other opinions on JE, I just think that they might get a bad rep once and a while...
