Engine Stand Spec Needed!

HI all

Does anyone have any spec/dimensions for building an engine stand for my 911's motor?

HawgRyder 08-26-2003 06:10 PM

Rather than build one...just head on down to your local cut-rate tool place and buy one.
I picked up a 1500lb unit for Can$85.
The reason I got the big one was so that my jack (lift) would fit in between the legs of the stand.
That way I can pull the engine and put it on the stand without assistance.

engine stand

buy the porsche engine fixture; (it's a lot easier than adapting standard engine stand heads) then there are a variety of low cost stands that have the same "pipe" size head that you can mount the fixture into

but if you must, there's an old how-to article on 914Fans or it's successor, it used a old GM flywheel or flexplate as i recall

LOL Wayne,

DKW, there is a Porsche specific engine fixture that will bolt right to the 911 motor and support it very well in your garden variety stand.

THere is much debate as to whether or not a generic stand is safe.
THere is NO debate that the Porsche fixture works.

You pays your money, you takes your chances.

I purchased the fixture and would not go any other way. It holds the engine very well. I also purchased my standard stand from a local NAPA store and the porsche fixture fit right in it. One thing to note however. I am currently waiting for my new stand to arive. It is an OTC 2012. The nice thing about this stand is that it has a U shaped bottom (two legs) and is low to the ground. With this set up I will be able to roll my floor jack right under the complete engine and lift it off the stand and into the car without a crane. I will let you know how it works out. I just hope that the stand will except the Porsche fixture without modification.:D
