930 cams in California?

Hello All,

My engine is being pulled as I type! A bad o-ring on one of the case bolts is dripping oil on my 86 930 with only 40k! While its out I'm replacing 3rd gear synchros that are acting up a bit, and thinking of replacing the cams to get more low end torque. I have a k-29, large intercooler, headers and a 1 bar boost spring. I've heard to keep my car emissions legal that having my cams reground to SC cam specs will give me the added torque and keep me emissions legal here in California. Any input? Thanks guys. Also, my girlfriend has a 74 2.0 914 that will not idle when it's warmed up. After 25 minutes or so it will just not idle. Any ideas? Thanks again.

Okay, yes the SC cams should work well in your car, and it should then pass smog. No guarantees though, as it depends a lot on the condition of your other engine components as well.

As for the 914, the warmup air regulator sounds like it's doing its job (keeping the idle high at the startup stage). However, your idle could be set too low, you could have a vacuum leak, or you could have the mixture set incorrectly. Those are the easy fixes. Harder is the manifold pressure sensor which seems to always give out eventually...
