engine / transmission jack adapter
I have an 86 930. I usually use the right tool for the job and I'd like to know what people use to do a "safe" engine/transmission drop. My engine does not have a sump plate so the pel-pw-2563 part will not work, I think. I have a nice AC hydraulic jack and would like to use the right adapter to protect the engine bottom, provide more stability and make things easier. Any suggestions? Are the factory tools mentioned in the Porsche factory manuals still available?
Thanks, Norm |

I've been looking to buy one of these.
Then I found an ATV jack for sale at Kragen for $79.... |
The ATV jack worked well for my engine drop.

A good high-quality floor jack, and some pieces of carpet for protection was perfect for me. It you position the jack just behind the sump plate, the engine and trans come out very easily, and well balanced. A helping hand is nice of course. Save your money on the jack adapter, as you surely need it for the engine stand yoke (if you're putting it on a stand). Good luck...in my opinion, and well prepared engine drop is much easier than....oh, trying to reinstall your oil tank and lines.

I used an ATV jack as well and it worked great. I paid ~$80 for the jack at the local Costco. It has more surface area for the engine & transmission to sit on than the adapter (and it was much cheaper).

The jack adapter is a nice tool, but I don't use one - it's not too tough to balance the engine / tranny. I'm not sure if that tool may give you a false sense of security too. Then again, I have not used it or tested it personally...
