Starter won't turn over

OK, now I have a "new" problem preventing me from making any progress on the "old" problems.

Here is what has transpired up to this point. I had my engine and tranny out. Reinstalled everything with a new high torque starter. Initially, starter worked great. When I started the engine for the first time, one of the heat exchangers cought fire (different post!). Now the starter won't turn over.

I checked out the wiring around the heat exchanger to make sure none of it got torched. As far as I can tell, the black casing is still in tact, therefore, I would assume that wires inside must be OK.

I have also checked the following;

1. Battery.
2. Ground strap.
3. Took starter out and checked it, works fine.
4. Connections at starter, good with no bare wires exposed or touching anything else.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.:confused:

The battery cable may be OK...but is the small starter wire still OK?
The small wire is the primary circuit for the operation....if it's burnt or the connection at the starter is bad....no start.

Yes, it is unscathed.

My batterey is new, but I'm wondering if it may have a problem. When I hook up my charger at 12 amps, the charge needle bounces back and forth from charged to uncharged. At 2 amps, it appears to be charging. I'm going to try charging it overnight and see what happens. I also read some old threads. One mentions cleaning the connections at the 14 pin plug. I'll try that too.

Another thing to look for....after you have tried to start the engine and have held the key on for several seconds....feel all the connections...if you find a warm one...there is the problem.
This goes for any time you have an electrical problem....heat means bad connection.
It is possible with the symtoms you have described...a bad battery.
