Thanks To Pelican Parts, SC re-build
 

I just wanted to thank Wayne and Tom of Pelican parts for their help through the re-building of my 79 911 SC. Waynes books and technical advise (as well as Tom Woodford (not of Pelican) in So. Cal.-See Waynes Book on re-builds) and the care and outstanding support from Tom Gould on the other end of the phone line at Pelican for my parts.

I was able, with the help of these very capable people as well as a few other good friends, to completely re-build my SC to a 3.2 10:1 with 964 cams and brand new heads (Thanks to Walt @ Competition Engineering) and a newly re-built Tranny, Clutch, etc. etc. Special Thanks to Steve Clausen of Pala for his time and patience.

I'm 1056 miles after rebuild with 3 oil changes and ready for my valve adjustment and head re-torque this weekend!

That sounds like a fantastic engine!! Please tell us your initial thoughts of the new engines' characteristics. Are you keeping the stock CIS? If so, what mods have you made to it to keep up with the increased displacement? Are you running dual plugs?

I'm curious as I'm just off a similar rebuild but did not opt for the displacement increase.

Sounds like a very fun engine. You'll have a blast.

The engine "jumps" from 3000 to 5000 rpm. I have tried to keep it under the 5300 mark since the re-build and just passed 1000 miles. I have just hit 6000 RPM in the last day and it felt great! The stock CIS seems to work fine with the added displacement and the 964 cams help to make it jump from 3 to 6k RPM. I look forward to adjusting the valves and changing the oil this weekend,,,,, so I can run it some more!

It's chassis dyno time! Report back with the results!!! This is EXACTLY what I have in mind for a rebuild once my engine needs it. Fortunately and unfortunately it looks like that will be a long time down the road...
