How do I disconnect throttle linkage
 
So I have had my 92 911 T Targa for about 4 weeks now. Purchased as a project. I started to remove the engine and got everything disconnected on the top except the trottle linkage. It will not come off. I think I might have bent the rod. I need to go look for this part now.

Does anyone have any tips on how to remove the trottle linkage before I just cut the wire.

72, right, not 92? sometimes the ball and socket refuse to part. in that case, slide off the bellcrank on the side of the trans where the front end of the rod attaches, and then remove the rod from it. you may have to unscrew the pin out of the trans case if the bellcrank hits the swing arm on the way off, and won't clear the pin. as you lower the engine, guide the rod past the axles, and then deal with it after the engine is out of the car.

I had the same problem on my '86. The damn ball and socket up at the engine throttle bracket refused to separate. Finally the pin that holds the ball to the bracket came out of the hole. I am going to have to fix that as part of my engine rebuild!

Here's a trick - use a small crescent wrench and wedge it between the ball and the rod. Wiggle the wrench and the rod should pop off of the ball. Works every time...

If your taking the transmission and engine out together you just disconnect it at the bell crank on the trans and leave the rest together. Also make sure you pull the pin/clip thing or they won’t come apart.

It worked, it worked. I dropped the transmission after separating the throttle at teh bell crank at the tranny. But I can't believe my car doesn't have an engine right now.

It looks like there was a small fire in there, one of the fuel return lines is gone and the engine pad is gone.

My buddy who is restoring a 65 was over to help and was most useful to this whole procedure.

I still can't believe it is out. :eek:
