Casting Number Help...

I posted this in the tech forum but perhaps it's more appropriate here?

I have the following and have not been able to track down the exacts based on the casting numbers, I have tried all of the normal reference guides, ie., Waynes Engine Book, THE Parts and Tech Catalog, the Porsche Tech Spec Books, to no avail.

The Cam Towers 901.105.111.1R are the same towers in all of Waynes Engine book pictures yet it is not listed in the parts section. The rest are:

901.105.111.1R: Cam tower from a 77 I think.
930.105.148.7R: Cam for an early 3.0?
930.105.147.7R: Ditto?
930.105.101.0R: Timing Chain Cover or Housing?
930.105.102.0R: Ditto?
930.105.105.0R: Timing Chain Cover or Housing?
930.105.105.0R: Ditto?
930.104.329.2R: Heads from what???

I really need help here guys...

There are two basic types of cam towers - I don't know if you can accurately determine anything from casting numbers - they might have different numbers for the same part number (multiple castings of the same). I don't know.

In general, there are two different types of cam towers, the early 3-bearing ones and the later 4-bearing ones. That's basically all you need to know on that.

The chain housings - there were several, depending upon what was bolted to them.

Heads - you can figure them out by measuring valves, ports, and by looking at the date stamp on them...

Hope this helps,

Wayne
