converting 930 motor to NA
 

Looking for the basics on converting a 930 motor to NA. I have access to a 3.3 motor taken to a 3.4 by Andial with about 45k on the rebuild. Other than higher compression pistons what else will be needed?

I assume the stock FI will need to be altered/changed? I'd like to avoid the costs of a stand alone engine management system. If I can keep the stock FI what needs to be done? If I go for carbs and a manifold what are the recommended choices.

Other changes I would think are a better suited cam and correct headers.


What else is involved in this conversion? Any opinions, insights, whining and moaning are welcome. Thank you in advance.

I'd imagine carbs would works, plenty of people have knowledge of carbs on this board.

If you don't want the turbo, then sell it and then by another engine. Doesn't make much sense though.

Hmmmm. So far not a lot of help people. The reason for the conversion is looking at putting it into a 914. The plumbing etc of the 930 is a nightmare I think to install midship complete w/turbo and plumbing. The added webbing of the cases of the 930 gives me a strong place to put together a nice healthy NA motor. I will keep all the turbo goodies in case I want to embark on an ass dragger in the future.

I have owned two Porsche rear engined cars: 911 SC and a 930. Loved the brakes and the motor of the 930 but not the understeering corner entry to oversteering corner exit nature of the beast. Have a 914 and would love to mate a big six to it. That is the reason for this strange question. Thanks again.

I guess you can swap the cams and replace the pistons with JE high compression ones, but that's all you can do. Plug all the turbo stuff, install some Weber 46s, and you'd be good to go...

Run mod-S cams and a standard set of headers for a 3.2...
