The hpc coating is a type of ceramic - its used on all types of components for race and drag cars. Main adv's are it helps stop case porosity (prob with mag cases) and oil does not stick to it so it flows back to the oil pickup better (which improves cooling). I'll grab some details when I'm next in the shop. Doesn't cost much - I'm going to get my heat exch's done when they're next off. Cheers - Ryan ps1: Ditch the S cams - you can get GE80 or 60 or 40 for the same price - Wade Cams can grind them. ps2: If you're getting new pistons why not get some better compression while you're there? say 9.5:1? We ran this thing to 7000rpm in 4th gear and with full load and had zero detonation on high octane pump gas. Only downside is we had to fit a gear reduction high torque starter motor to crank it over when hot...it now sounds like a helicopter starting up |
Darn shame to go and buy new P/C's and settle for 8.5:1. When CC'd and compression ratio actually calculated I'd bet my last nickle they aren't even 8.5:1 at stk deck ht. I would go for 9.5:1 measured & calculated minimum, and if your pump gas In AU is avail better than 96 oct and your budget allows it, I would go for 9.8:1. DYNO and set it up conservatively for ign advance.
Std starter will be fine- that is moderate compression. Good luck, Kevin Roush GAS Motorsport Performance Porsche Upland Ca 909 985 2909 |
Okay, I'll start looking for some higher compression P&Cs. Thanks
