Engine/Tranny separation
First...a big thank you to Wayne. You encouraged me through your books to start my rebuild project. Fantastic web site.
Now that I have the engine and transmission out on the floor I am having trouble separating the two. Is it because I did not remove the clutch helper spring assembly? (I tried to do that last night but I needed a circlip removal tool from work). If not, what is the trick besides removing the 4 nuts that hold the two together ![]() Regards to all, Norm ------------- 86 930 93 Volvo 945T |

Norm, once you get the helper spring removed and the 4 bolts removed (which should include the starter) the tranny just slides off.

Thanks for your kind patient response...I was sure it was the helper spring...I guess it puts enough pressure on the clutch so it won't allow separation.
I have now learned to follow instructions explicitly.

the short lower lever, held on by a snap ring needs to come off first, then it will slide off, unless the shaft is rusted to the freewheeling long arm with the horseshoe spring, in which case you will have to remove it with heat, air hammer, or whatever.

nreed, give me a shout if you need a hand - just went thru the same things a few weeks ago. And look at the factory service manual - it does have a detailed section on removing engine & separate tranny from it.
