What year motor?
I just purchased a SWB 911 with a transplanted 2.7 liter engine that needs repair. How can I tell the model year of this engine from the serial number? The engine has a 7-digit number beginning with 656xxxx.
Are there references published on the web? I tried several searches w/o success. Also, short of tearing the motor down, is there a way to determine what brand of cylinders (Nikasil or others) were originally installed in the motor? Appreciate any response. Thanks. |
Just give us the whole number. Anyone with a Porsche Red Book can tell you the date of the engine. (Mine is at home right now.)

Or an Engine Rebuild Book too...

Thanks Kurt, the number is 6560291. By the way what is the Porsche Red Book? I'm new to 911 ownership and am trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible.

The Red Book is a very inexpensive (around $12.00) hand book that has all the specs on every 911. I would also recommend getting Wayne's 101 projects book and his engine rebuild book. Both fairly inexpensive.

Bob-
Your motor is from a California version 1976 911S (165hp) 8.5:1 comp ratio. |
Those engine rebuilding books have some good charts in the back, ask Wayne.
