fuel line removal question

I removed the fuel filter and accumulator tonight and disconnected all required fuel lines. When I removed the one from the accumulator to the distributor, I didn't get any of the expected fuel out of the line....is this normal? The accumulator itself had ALOT of fuel drain out of it (more than I was expecting!).

Is there an easier way to 'purge' the fuel system of fuel before disconnecting the lines?

Thanks

Brian
