Valve Guides
What type of valve guides should I have installed in my 1977 930 head. I'am having the heads reconditioned, and I've seen guides that are Manganese Bronze, Phosphorous Bronze, Silica Bronze? Are they all the same?
|
The pro (25 years experience) who did my 3.0 heads, used Manganese Bronze guides. He recommended them highly, as being very resistant to wear, especially in air-cooled engines.

Yep. Mine too.

I agree with the above. I have mine at the shop getting some special work done as well! ;)
|
Thanks I'll try and chase up some manganese bronze guides here
in Oz. |
What kind does our host sell? I checked out the site and it does not specify.

If your stuck for another supplier....EBS has them @ 4.95 ea.
Sorry Wayne...but have to be fair to Paul. Bob |
Managed to get them locally here in Sydney Australia at Bob Wymms for $13.50 AU each
|
Colsibro.
A proprietary copper-silicon-plus bronze.
Is the material highly favoured by race engine makers here in UK. I have no personal experience of this very expensive F1 material... Kind regards David |
From what I have read lately...the copper in the mix is good for transferring heat away from the stem.
I wonder if some other exotic material might be better. But then the cost factor rears it's ugly head! Bob |
