Intake stud corrosion

The intake studs on my 87 930 are showing signs of corrosion white and rusty in places.

Is it typical to replace these during a rebuild or just clean them up, and maybe even use some high heat paint?

that's pretty typical. sometimes they get so corroded that you can't get the intake manifold off. in that case you can usually work the manifold up enough to get below it and cut the stud(s). some sort of zinc based coating may help prevent that.

Thanks John, I'll pull these out clean them up, coat them with something and reuse them.
