Lightbulb Repair Cam oil line leaks?

The weak link in these things is the rubber tube and fittings.
Rather than buying new lines, can they be repaired by cutting out the rubber line and replacing with some fuel line and compression fittings or even simple screw down ring clamps?

Cam oil lines are about $22.00 for hydralic tensioner set-up and $15.00 for non-hydralic tensioner setups.

You might save $10.00 trying to rig something. Not a good gamble in my opinion.
