Rod Bolt Problem Help!
Had my rods sized at a local shop. When i gave him my rods i did so with OLD rob bolts. I had some of my new parts in with the box of things i wanted machined. When i got rods back MY NEW ROD BOLTS WERE INSTALLED IN THE RODS TO HOLD HALVES TOGETHER BY THE MACHINEIST. They were torqued pretty darn tight. When i loosen them i need to clamp the rods and use my torque wrench to loosen. I set to 35 lbs before my wrech stopped clickin out. Are these rod bolts trash now or can i still use them? I know LOOSEN torque is not the same as tighen torque but im freaked out by this. Will they stretch under 42 ft lbs? Going in a 82' 3.0. Basicaly, can i use these bolt or do i gotta buy new ones.

If there is any doubt, which there apparently is, buy and use new ones. What is a set of 12? $70 and a few days if one orders them on-line? This is nothing compared to the cost ($ and time) of a connecting rod coming loose. Cheers, Jim

i'm sure you went with ARP or raceware bolts, so no big deal. they can be reused.

Yup, ironic, isn't it...
Same shop? -Wayne |
One guys lists "Colorado" the other lists "Denver"
Betcha it's the same place... One wonders how many loose rod bolts are driving around Colorado because this shop already stretched them... |
