Hi everyone, I need some Ideas. I have a 74 911 with an 83 SC engine in it. I'm looking to change the engine back to a period correct 74' 2.7, though i want a MFI system. How complicated will this be to do? Is it possible to put a MFI system on the SC? I love new ideas so please don't hold back. Any information would be great.
Thanks, Erik |

Sure it's possible. What you would probably want to do is at least change the Pistons and cams to something a little more lively. Then find a complete MFI setup (preferably of the S) this would have to include throttle bodies and stacks that are at least 36mm (don't know how much airflow the 3.0 would require). Lastly you'd need to send your pump to someone (pacific fuel injection or Hans) to match the space cam to your engine.

The engine's left cam will need to incorporate the drive gear for the MFI pump. And, if I recall correctly, the fuel delivery system (from fuel pump to the injectors) of CIS cars is different and will likely need to be converted to what's used in MFI cars.

Costs for the MFI 2.7 are about $4500 right now for all good, rebuilt, working components. I would put carbs on it if you want the cheap and easy vintage look.

Thanks for the info guys.....Wouldn't I have to get new heads as well for the 3.0 since they are CIS ones?

As most folks seem to prefer the 3.0, just advertise that you would like to trade your SC 3.0 for a nice 2.7. I'll bet you can get someone to take you up on it and do the engine swap for you as well.

Umm.... I can get a couple of 2.7's in a split...and can install it for you after the 2.7 is sorted. If you really want to got to a 2.7 (I'd recommend stating with the 3.0 and putting carbs on it), e-mail me.
Edit: I could use another 3.0 for Super Secret Souk Projects. |

Souk and Wayne have a good point here. If the 3.0 is in good shape, stick with it and give a call to PMO. They'll provide all the components necessary for a nice switch from CIS to carbs, and for about $1,500 less than MFI (in parts alone). And because PMO uses fairly "new" Weber componentry (note: "new"), your mileage may be a little better than with old Weber technology.
Regardless, a couple weeks ago, I did some spirited driving behind a weber-equipped 3.0, and man, that car had some guts to it. ![]()
