Cylinder Head Gasket Set - Missing Orings

Can anyone tell me if the Cylinder Head Gasket Set is supposed to come with the o-rings for the case through bolts?

I just went through all my parts that I ordered from the rebuild wizzard and cant seem to find them.

smestas 01-03-2004 06:21 PM

I just checked the Pelican Wizard gasket page and there supposed to be in there? Does anyone else have a gasket kit they could look through and tell me if Im missing a package? Its driving me nuts since I was all set to seal my case up and lo and behold I have no o-rings.

I think it depends on which kit you bought. If it was just the top end kit then I believe the answer is no.

Here's the PP part number if you need it (I had to pick-up one on my last order): K-701-006-40 at 75 cents each.

smestas 01-03-2004 06:39 PM

Doug,

Thanks for the part number.

The reason why I'm trying to make sure that Im not going crazy is because I bought the kit thru the rebuild wizard and it states that the kit I recieved has the through bolt o-rings but I just cant find them.

Link to the page:

H-100-907-03 Cylinder Head Gasket Set, 911SC (1978-83) $148.00

Am I missing a package from my kit or is this a typo on the site?

I though it was supposed to (seems like the list and pictures on the rebuild wizard show the o-rings) but mine didn't have them either! Had to buy them separately.

The o rings are in the bottom end kit, ie you have to split the case.

If you split the case you should have bought both top and bottom or a complete kit.

Jack,

Thanks for the reply.

I ordered the kit from the rebuild wizard (link above) and it stated that the through bolt o-rings came with the set. I notified Wayne about it and he gave me FREE shipping on the missing o-rings. Which works out for me as he also noted that I was under charged for the kit and the pricing has since been adjusted.

When I recently ordered a gasket set for the top end of my 2.7 I made a conversation with the Pelican office. I was told that they was an error in Wizard. The head gasket set starts with the prefix C- and the whole engine gasket set starts with a K- prefix. There did appear to be an error in the link between th catalog number and the picture. If I rememeber the difference in price was $194 and $249 for the total engine set.

Simon, if you ended up with the same gasket set I did, you will also find that it doesn't have the flywheel seal, the oil cooler seals, and the #8 nose bearing seal.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhrhrhrhrhhhhhhhh!

I just got my through bolt o-rings last night and thought that I'd be ziping up the bottom end today then I read Kurts post. My mouth droped open as I ran to the garage.

:(

No Flywheel seal & No Pully Seal, who knows what else. Im going to have to go through the whole kit over again to make sure whats missing and another call to Pelican.

I guess as it turns out I was under charged and under shipped.

cstreit 01-08-2004 08:55 AM

Simon,

Those components are included in the bottom end kit. If you only ordered the top-end kit, you weren't undershipped....

Chris, it's a problem with the Rebuild Wizard. The picture indicates you are getting a top and bottom rebuild kit, but when you click on the button to add to your cart the Wizard puts in the part number for just the top end kit, which of course you don't realize until later when you are looking for that vital bottom end seal or gasket!

SIMON! I sent the following email to you on Sunday night:

Quote:

The kit you need is H-100-901-04 on this page:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911M/POR_911M_enginA_pg2.htm#item6

If you place an on-line order, then simply place a comment in the notes that I said to give you free shipping on this, and we'll get it out pronto.

I have updated and changed the wizard to fix this error.

Thanks,

Wayne
Then you went ahead and ordered just the o-rings. Why didn't you follow the instructions in my email?

"I guess as it turns out I was under charged and under shipped."

Sorry, but the mistake this time wasn't on my end - I specifically told you which parts to order in the email I sent you.

I have since fixed the Rebuild Wizard so that the complete gasket sets are properly added to your shopping cart. Also fixed that z-block problem...

Wayne,

I put a call in today and spoke to Jason who was waiting to speak to Tom. Could you please tell me what I need to order now to complete whats missing on the bottom end kit since I already purchased the O-Rings?

Thanks and sorry for the hassel but I just want to get this motor back together and go for a spin.

Regards,

Your stuff is being drop-shipped overnight - the bottom end gasket kit you need will be there tomorrow so you can assemble the engine over the weekend...

Wayne,

Thanks for getting me all straightened out!

This is the type of Service that keeps me coming back for more (as soon as my wallet recovers).

:)

stevef 01-08-2004 05:48 PM

Oops, sorry I couldn't find my notes on that call. I guess it was an H prefix not a K as I had mentioned.

cstreit 01-09-2004 06:09 AM

...and thus concludes today's story about why we order from a reputable supplier instead of the unending list of other choices. :)
