Push or Pull Clutches?

I am building a 2.0 six cylinder for a 914-6 race car with a 901 gearbox. I know the original clutch on the 2.0 had a push pressure plate. I want to use the later pull pressure plate (Sachs). What needs to be done to make the swap?

Thanks,
neilca

You may have to use the 901 tranny from a '70 or '71 911. These have the mounting features for the pull style cluchtes, but are still 901 trans. You will also need a 6 bolt 225mm flywheel, and starter. This is a bolt-on for the early chrank-shafts.

How much torque do you think you are producing in your 2.0? I doubt you'll exceed the capacity of the old clutch unless your pushing 220 hp or more.

good luck,

JP

The torque will be less than 200 ft-lbs. Horsepower will come from high Rpm 7500-8000.

I have a 914 with a 3.2l and a 914 sideshift gearbox. Im using a centerforce 915 pull clutch with the kevlar disc.

I made a pull clutch setup. It uses a custom (short) clutch cable, and shift fork from a type 911 gearbox. This required a bit of machining to the transmission case (was done in my garage with a drill fixture and end mill)

The only downside I could see to this is the custom clutch cable. get 2 made so you have a spare.

The set up works really well, Id take some pics but my car is in winter hibernation right now. I can take some shots of the tools and spacers I made.

Tim,
Did you use a brass shift fork? Where can I find a picture of a stock setup? Perhaps I could work it out from there.
Thanks,
neilca
