Bosch 0231159002 Distr-No power
I have the Bosch 0231159002 Distributor, which I believe cam from a 1967 911 S. I have installed an MSD Box and a Crane Optical Trigger. I have installed a new cap and rotor. I am not getting power from the end of the rotor to the spark plug wires. I am getting power to the rotor from the coil. Is there something in the rotor that would cause me to lose power from the center of the rotor to the outside? Is there something besides the rev limiter on these, like a resistor? What is the black coated part between the center contact of the rotor to the outer contact?

the black epoxy in the rotor covers a resistor. use an ohmmeter to check if it still has resistance, or an open circuit. a crack in the rotor can direct the spark to ground thru the distributor shaft. unusual for a new rotor, but a remote possibility.

Remove the Crane unit and try it again with points. 99.9% of the time when people call us with problems like this, it's because the units are improperly installed (or they zapped it by hooking it up incorrectly to the power source).
The Crane unit has to trigger a spark when the rotor is near the points on the cap. If not, you may not get a spark where and when you need it. Make sure your adjustments for the Crane unit are setup properly... -Wayne |
OK, I'll let the mechanic know. I really hope he has installed enough of these to know better.

Then I really wish you or John Walker would just swing by Lubbock, Texas and fix this stupid car. It's drivng me crazy.
Thanks for the info. P.S. This ain't listed in your book. It should be under the chapter for people that should not own Porsches. |

Your assumption is correct. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1074625505.jpg |
Thanks everyone for your help. I did purchase a new set of points. Maybe I just need to go back with them. I would rather not though.

Finally got the car back and drove it for the first time. The problem was that the mechanic could not get the optical eye lined up right. It is SO COOL to get to drive my First Porsche. When I drove it I could not get it into 4th and 5th. I removed the shifter, put in new bushings and a short shift kit, all with Waynes help (well his book). Wayne that book is the best thing I will probably ever buy.
I lit the tires up making a turn and had to slow it down. Thanks again for everyone's help. |
