distributor guru needed

Hey,I,m building a 2.7 with e-cams 8.5 to 1 pistons,cis heads and 40 webers. The distributor I have is bosch # 0 231 184 001 Jfud 6 and then on the mounting flange 030.The guy I bought it from said it might have a flat spot in mid-range.Can anyone determine the power curve from the # and tell me if this dist. is suitable or recommend one which would be better.This is obviously a street car.Thanks,T.C.

I just went throught this with my 73 24 T the t dist is no. 003 the e dist is an 009 . I built my motor with s pistons e cams and re did all the mfi to e specs ,with the orig dist 003 car ran like sh...t ,a friend had his 72 e all apart and i got his dist. 009 and it runs perfect with that e dist. I then bought a oo6 witch is suposed to be the same as the 009,it seems good but nnot as good as the 006.

Actually the 2.4 distributor curves are very similar.

Tcramer:

You have a '74, 2.7 dizzy and it can be made to work in your carbed 2.7.

I'd get rid of the points with a Pertronix Ignitor and have it recurved to suit.

So, Steve, can we just send our distributors to you to have them re-curved to match our engines? What info would you need in order to do this?

LOL,..Yessir, we do recurve these things,...

I need to know:

1) Displacement

2) Compression ratio

3) Camshaft profile

4) Octane use

4) Application; street or racing

5) Single or twin-ignition

It takes anywhere from 2-3 hours to do these. We are $70/hr (and no sales taxes).

So, what do you do with the vacuum retard mechanism when you use a 2.7 CIS distributor on Weber engine? I have my retard mechanism locked in place for now, but I noticed that the steep part of the timing curve from 1000 to 2000 RPM is missing. This has forced me to set my static and idle timing to over 15 degrees BTDC to achieve 32 degrees at 6000 RPM. Is this acceptable? I have heard Weber engines like more initial advance, but this seems excessive.

I also wish to use webers on a stock 911/81 (2.7euro).I have aquired a distributor Bosche No. 0231 184 006 JFUD 6 Carrera 3 euro 75-77 I think
is this ok and will it require recurving. I can find no figures for it.It will be used for hillclimb and sprints in a spaceframe sports racer.

The vacuum retard unit is not connected and used. The advance curve becomes a combination of initial and centrifugal.

These like to idle with anywhere from 8-10 deg and one sets total advance for 32-35 degrees with everything in by 4000-4500 for best mid-range torque. 15 deg at idle is too much.

The big variables are the octane rating of the fuel in use, compression ratio and camshaft profile.

Twin-plug motors get a different advance curve, as well,...
