Wayne,

Not to worrry. The risk to your life from your wife killing you is to great for that to acutally happen.

I am glad to see that I am not the only one who has spent 15 hrs cleaning a case... about an hour on the outside and the rest on the inside where it really counts. 95% of the inside gunk comes off quickly and easily. The last 5% is glacially slow and the hours just seem to pile on and on.

And, I seem to recall that in BA's book, the time to rebuild an engine, including R and R, is 40 hrs. Sheesh, I bet I have close to that in disassembly, cleaning, measuring, ordering parts, organizing, blah, blah.

I did it the easy way, took it to a machine shop to get it cleaned. Whilst there took advantage and modded the case!

Juan,
The machineshop did clean my case.. but it still came back dirty.. they're not going to spend 10+ hours cleaning your case and preping it for assembly

The mating surfaces of my case halves were worth the trouble just to look at. That surface was a beautiful, fine-ground surface that was almost 3-D. That surface, and the surfaces of the crank main and rod journals were worth the price of admission just to view. Gorgeous. It was like jewelry. Both surfaces had a great deal of what I would call "lustre." I peeked at them with my best magnifying glass and they were just as mesmerizing.

I think the mating surface on the engine in wayne's book has been machined, that's why it's shiny.

Yes, that's true.

Most places will not spend 20 hrs cleaning your case for your rebuild. This is one of the reasons why, if you do your own rebuild, it can actually be better than if you had a shop do it.

Hi

I Spent at least 10 hours on my 7R Case, I made a 'split', which is a steel rod (10mmx100mm) with a slit in the end of it along the length, Then put this in a chuck on a flexible drive, Get some 3M Green Scotch Brite Pads (You can buy these in industrial sizes) and cut them into strips that can slide into your split, Then just sit and scour every nook and cranny of your case.

Also in waynes book he says get a 'box' of kimwipes, I bought a box of boxes and have never regretted it
